Looking for the best trippy music out there. I like The Cure's pornography album a lot

way back when "pimp"was looked at as a noun country joe and the fish,electric music for the mind and body,the beatles sgt peppers,magical mystery,white,early airplane,quicksilver......a lot of bands tried out the psychedelic thing with mixed results.....animals,love is.....the first few dead albums,rolling stones,satanic majesties request.......bands like love,electric prunes...

the doors come to mind,and cheap thrills is probably as close to a san fran ballroom experience as it gets these days....soundtracks from stuff like easy rider etc

more recent stuff by brian eno,and ecm records like keith jarretts survivor suite,or steve tibbetts,david torn,mahavishnu orchestra.....

I love trip hop and there are plenty of stuff to hear there. But I wanted a recommend a pretty rare album that flirst with industrial: Coil; sounds to play in the dark. Some great rhytms there. It's a weird album, sometimes it sounds pretty dull but in the right state of mind is pretty awesome.

Also a record that pops into mind that isn't exactly trippy by itself but does really trippy things to (atleast my) mind: Godspeed you! black emperor: Lift your skinny fists like antennae to heaven. The song "they don't sleep on the beach anymore" is one of the greatest things ever recorded IMO and features some of the best guitar playing I've ever head, even though the guitar sounds more like a choir than a guitar towards the end... Space is Deep remains one of the great "lose yourself and go on a voyage of consciousness" inducing songs.

If you like trippy music I recommend anything with Steve Hillage or Daevid Allen.

Early UFO with Todd Rundgren was good also.

I also recommend anything by Gong as well as Frank Zappa.

I like most of the stuff that Devin Townsend does too. Trippy with a modern, harder edge, but tasteful at the same time.

Explosions in the sky is also a pretty good, in the trippy genre.
