I love my squier and it's all I can afford right now, but it has fret sprout, and I think the neck was too green because it needs to be adjusted frequently. But with a little work it can be a great bass. I don't think it feels anywhere near as nice as an 08 MIA Jazz I played recently. That said, it will last just as long as any bass assuming I keep up on maintainance and such. ;)

Whats the difference between a Fender and Squier????????

I have recently played a couple very expensive Fender basses at guitar center.

And I gotta say, I prefer Squire. Don't get me wrong I mean if someone was giving away a Fender j or a Squier J I would pick the fender simply beacause they age very well and it would be cool to have a 1955 fender J instead of a 1955 Squier J (I dont know if they make them that early but you catch my drift)

I know people say the wood and electronics are better but does anyone have PROOF????

In my opinion Squiers also play better and sound the exact same. Don't believe me go to Ed Friedlands Youtube page and look and his Squier vibe series review. He compares Squier and fender basses.

I have a Sqiuer PJ bass it was my first and I much prefer it over most fender.

THIS PART IS IMPORTANT I am comparing Squier basses to the $400 to $1000 Fender basses not there ridiculously nice basses

He is comparing Chinese made Squiers sound to Japanese made Fenders sound. It's was said quite often in the 80's that people prefered the Japanese Fenders but the American Made pickups. On several of the comparisons my ears still heard a slight edge to the Japanese pickup in his comparison.
Build wise you are correct in some instances. My Classic Vibe Squier Jazz is every bit built as well as most MIA Jazz Basses.
I just swapped out the pickups for Seymour Duncan and there is a world of difference. That being said the MIA Fenders can be bought with Satin necks, Nitro Cellulous lacquered paint jobs, different wood in the body etc but not enough to warrant the huge difference in cost as far as I am concerned.
But maybe that cool skunk stripe down the neck makes the deal? Not. I think there is no huge difference in even the $1600.00 MIA Fenders except for what I've already mentioned.
Buying one is not going to make me a better player nor make me any more money gigging than I already make.
