What's the matter with me?

There happens to be a really nice 90s era SR500A for sale in the classifieds here. Not a burst finish, but beautiful dark woodgrain and you know it will be a sweet bass as its an MIJ from the Fujigen Gakki plant... same as my SR800. I think he's asking $300 shipped...

...to make your GAS even more intolerable :P

Or like the OP and others - like myself - any gig at all.

Talkbass has turned me into a gearhound, more than an actual bassist. I'm nearing the point where I don't want/need anything more, so I'm planning to use the cold winter weather as an excuse to stay in more, work on my playing skills and start looking for some dudes - or chicks - to start playing with.

The primary function of internet forums is to provide virtual environments in which compulsive individuals can gather for the purpose of enabling one another. This enabling generally takes the form of:

a)-competing to collect an absurdly large number of items

b)-sheepishly (but half-heartedly) denigrating ones own compulsive behavior as well as that of others

c)-vociferously encouraging more acquisition by all concerned

The objects of affection aren't limited to basses...or amps...or guitars...or even musical instruments.

Do a Google search for "_________discussion forum" (fill in the blank with just about anything) and you will find a group of people who collects/hoards that thing. The items collected, themselves, may differ, but the personality disorder mechanism is the same.

Just be thankful that you've fixated on basses, not steam locomotives or large blocks of granite.

I only have a single bass. But that's because:

a)-I only started learning to play bass this year

b)-my second bass is currently in transit from it's previous owner

c)-my closets are already full of guitars.

This is so true. I did a search for "women's shoe discussion forum" and found a string where the posts all debated the relative merits of specific brands of high heels. The string is
peppered with the report of new internet purchases, the color
of the shoes ordered, the price paid. Squint your eyes and it could be TB.

Face it, guys, we're just a bunch of girly men. (except for those of us who are girly women, of course…)

The problem is that you're hanging out on TalkBass, where you spend the whole day staring at other peoples' pictures and lusting after gear. When you hang out on a site that's full of GAS-enablers, you can't expect anything else to happen.

You think musicians are bad? Ask a photographer about his old cameras and lenses and lighting gear! Then ask which new items he has his eye on.
Just don't do it within earshot of his wife. :^)

Oh, and whisper the word Leica in his ear and watch the reaction.

Or as one of my favorite expressions goes, "You say this like it's a bad thing...." :)

I've bought and sold several guitars over the years, 'just because I wanted it' at the time.

I'm sure it's going to be the same, now that I'm playing Bass. In fact, the FSR you're talking about is at the top of my priority list, now that I've signed on with another band.
