What's your "channel strip" in pedal format?

I'm interested to know what pedals people are using as tone-shaping devices in a project studio or home recording signal chain. Things such as compressor pedals, EQs, preamps, gain-stages, cab sims, etc.

What is it about those particular pedals that makes them great for what you are trying to achieve?

My studio setup is a @Sushi Box FX Partical Accelerator (small tube) > Southampton Ictineo > LBA 2020 > Sushi Box Finally Tube DI > Zoom GCE-3 interface & effects into CuBase, ProTools or Harrison Mixbus.

The Partical Accelerator has that Fender Bassman / Showman gain and tone section that I like with a bit or warmth, the Ictineo [aka Submarine Designer] adds a bit of EQ & burnish at just the right points, The LBA 2020 adds transformer yumminess and chew and the Finally just gives that last tube kiss before going digital.



I still often use my dbx Pro Vocal processor that has several patches set up by some of my favorite studio engineers that is an actual channel strip in a box that works great for bass, vox or pretty much anything else.
I am also looking forward to trying the Sushi Box MORE in place of the Finally when it arrives.

FYI @essarache90 live and recording are all too often different animals, what works for one might not work for the other ~ or this is a legit topic.

Broughton Studio One and a Effectrode LA-1A is pretty tasty and simple combo.

Might throw on a Two Notes Torpedo CAB M+ as well for Cab Sim/IR duties if the Studio One isn't getting it done for some reason.

Broughton LPF, Darkglass Hyper Luminal, optional "fun" pedal (currently Fuzzrocious Lil' Fella drive), Barber Linden EQ, Sushi Box Particle Accelerator.

Couple days ago I did a reamp of a clean DI signal thru this chain, then into a Quilter Bass Block 800 with cranked Gain, then to an Ampeg 2x10 cab.

It was deeply satisfying and incredibly filthy in the best way.

Darkglass X7 -> DSM Omnicabsim Deluxe -> interface.
I play and record death metal and tend to go for a full and punchy yet "dry/brittle" and clanky sound.
I've tried the "compressed lows and highs, distorted mids" parallel approach.
I've tried the "brickwall-limiter on everything below 100/150/200Hz, distortion on everything else" parallel approach.
I've tried the "compressed full-range signal blended with distorted mids" parallel approach.
I've tried running a B3K/Rat/high-gain guitar distortion pedal in parallel with a high-ratio compressor, with and without the aforementioned frequency splitting.
I've tried countless IRs and cabsims.
I've tried high-passing at 30~100Hz, low-passing at 3~5kHz, gently cutting lower mids and slightly boosting upper mids.
I've watched every YouTube video on how to mix metal bass.

Nothing I do to my signal, either in the DAW or through pedals, after hours upon hours of meticulous tonecrafting and checking reference mixes, nothing ever sounds as good as going through the X7 and OCSD.

I’m running an LA-1A and a Q Strip myself along with an OD (Sgfx Beta) and a cab sim (GFI Cabzeus). Very happy with this setup so far.

The discontinued API tranzformer preamp. I'm not sure what people didn't like about it, but I love it. Transformers. API inductor-based eq. API tone. API compression. It's perfect. I think one of the main concerns was the volume change when engaging and disengaging the compressor, but for me when I'm recording I set and forget
