Whats your day job!?

I am a Corrections Officer for the largest State prison in Colorado and I am also a Christian pastor and have my own web site that is also an online ministry.

Unemployed? Did someone decide there were no more defects to locate? I'd feel better if you had a job.

Mike

I worked for a smaller company until November. Due to production cuts in the aerospace industry they had been experiencing a pretty serious loss of business. Well, the owners of the company happen to be some of the most incompetent a-holes I've ever met. They had been looking to get rid of people without having to do an actual "layoff" for some time, so they were firing people for anything they could if they thought they could get away with it. Well, they already had it out for me because I slipped in a puddle and thrashed my lower back thanks to a safety violation on their part (rubber mats are supposed to be on the floors around all the water tanks for immersion testing. They weren't.) and I reported the violation to OSHA, on top of being out of work for a month. This happened in July of 09. Fast forward to November of 09, I wake up one morning to some pretty nasty abdominal cramping and find myself, forgive my bluntness, pooping copious amounts of blood. I was up two hours before my shift so I called in, told my supervisor what was up and told him I was going to wait and see if it passed before going to the hospital and I would call again if I wasn't coming in. Well, it didn't pass. I called back, told them I was going to the ER. "No problem." I get admitted to the hospital. I call again, tell them what's up. "No problem." I call again after I learn that they want to keep me for at least 48 hours. Despite the fact that the doctor wasted no time putting me on enough morphine to make Sid Vicious envious, I call in again. "No problem." After 48 hours, numerous procedures, some serious dents in my sense of dignity and finally understanding what all the hubbub is concerning opiates (which I still don't advocate, fun as they may be), I get released. I call in as I'm getting ready to leave, they tell me to just make sure I have a medical excuse when I come in. Well, I'm still pretty doped up so I'm trying to find my doctor who had me admitted, I can't get ahold of her. I call back to work and tell them I can't get in touch with her and I hadn't been given a work excuse, I'll have to get it in the morning and come in late, I can stay over to make up for it if they want. "No problem." I wake up the next morning, call my doctors office. The receptionist tells me that my doctor is overbooked for the day and won't have time to help me out until after 4 pm. Well, sh*t. I call my boss AGAIN... tell him what's up. He says just bring it in the following day. I get the medical excuse that afternoon, head in to work the next morning as instructed. I hand it over to my boss, pull a job card and get to work. After about an hour, he calls me into his office. I walk in, I see the HR lady (who happens to be one of the owners wife) sitting there. "That's not good," I think to myself. My boss hands me back my doctors note, saying they can't accept it. I ask why not? He says that he needs my hospital discharge papers. I say "Oh, well that's no problem. They're sitting on my dining room table right now. I can go get them and be back here in 20 minutes." The HR goblin says "No, we think it's best if we part ways with you." and hands me my termination paperwork, which was dated for the day before. I say nothing, I sign nothing but I take the paperwork with me.

After that a whole new level of BS began as we went back and forth for 5 months battling over my unemployment compensation.

Incidentally, you wouldn't believe the defects that I had to let slide because they weren't "rejectable according to procedural parameters"

That means that I was forced to pass components with internal defects that were literally, less than 1/100th of an inch smaller than the acceptance limit. If I wasn't an atheist I would pray every time I got on an airplane haha.
