I wouldn't trade my self built Geddy Clone for all the Gold in Fort Knox! ( Well actully I would, but you get what I mean.)

As to other high end types, don't know, don't own one.

I decided a while back that if I ever had to sell any basses, my Squier and my Geddy Clone will be the last to go!

I'm really looking forward to the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickups that should be arriving any day now, to install into my MIM Jazz. I'm thinking of doing the install myself with the new soldering gun my wife gave me for Christmas. How hard could it be?
Here it is:

What the heck These are my favorites by a large amount, and I have played the others in your list Five string active J's that really do sound and feel like very old 4 string passive Fenders IMO!

Mine is my favorite: 2003 American Series with Lindy Fralin Split-Jazz pickups and a Hipshot drop-tuner. This can cover it all. My similar 2008 Jazz V is close.

My favorite otherwise is the incomparable Dingwall Super J. Of the boutique conventional J's I've tried, I've been most impressed with Mike Lull.

For a more modern take on the jazz bass, I preferred my Valenti hands-down. Awesome, awesome bass.

I also really liked the Mike Lulls that I owned.

And the '08 Fender J5 that I had was also a killer bass.

Haven't played a Lowend (although I REALLY want to) or an AC. Sadowsky basses are great, but just not really my thing.

Here's my passive Nordy vj4 with hum cancelling single coil nordstrand pickups. It's the ultimate Jazz Bass IMO. The boutique feel and setup with the most killer Jazz Bass tone.

I played many a jazz bass before I got this one and every time I play her I am so glad we crossed paths!

Picked this one up from Scott Pazera (who said he had to put it away after playing it for 5 minutes because he wouldn't be able to sell it if he didn't)

I'm sure some will disagree but I have a Fender Deluxe 5 and a 75 reissue and I love them both. The higher end stuff like Sadowsky never seemed to be better than the Fenders enough so to justify the extra money. In my opinion nothing sounds like a real vintage fender jazz.
