These are very nice - I have 2 of them.

Although I think Moody's are also nice they've gotten a bit too pricey. I would recommend the Italia's - I have 4 of those. 4 inches wide and really thick - very comfy. Great quality. Buy one of theirs (Italia) and you'll start getting emails with really excellent deals like buy one 1/2 off the next, free shipping etc.

The italias look nice but at 54 inches max, they're too short.

I just picked up a betty from the classifieds here. It's nice, and *just* long enough.

Anyone have a suggestion for a nice wide and thick, padded leather strap that will go to 60" or so?

I was shopping for a new wide strap recently and looked around at various options (including threads here), and decided I wanted leather. The Moody straps seem to be highly rated, although expensive.

Then I decided to ask for a price for someone to make up a strap for me. I decided to go with a monster 6", as wide as is practical for my shoulder, and obviously to my chosen length and colour. Ended up paying a 'Moody' price but the result is really nice. Excellent quality leather, really soft and flexible, but quite thick with suede backing. No neck dive with my bass, and very comfortable. It'll last for years.

Not an option for everyone with slimmer shoulders of course, and may not win prizes for the coolest look in the room (not that I'd be a contender anyway!), but it does the job I bought it for, so I'm happy!

I coveted Moody's and Italias for a long time. But they were too pricey for me. I had a couple of Levy's that were just fine and was happy enough with them.

Then Italia made a mistake and combined their frequent Buy-one-get-the-next-one-for-cheap deal with a normal discount deal and I basically got two straps for about two thirds the cost of a regular single strap. AND they weren't plain vanilla got-a-dozen-in-the-box straps. They were both extra long (I'm big. So to fit me normally, it has to be one that would hang your bass in front of your knees.) four inch wide models. One was black with a tan suede back. The other was black with black suede.

I doubt they have made that mistake again. I doubt that many people got to take advantage of it that day. But I'm pretty happy that I got to, because I'd never have been able to afford them otherwise.

And I just counted: I have five Levy's that each go with one particular instrument, the ones that actually get played routinely. And I have two "Who Knows?" straps that I got at GC that might go on whichever other instrument goes back into rotation for a few minutes.

I've found that there are tons of great straps out there. But a lot of them just aren't quite long enough for my tastes. So that eliminates a lot of good straps for me. That's one reason I like the Mono Betty's and the Get'M Get'm Wear straps. The Get'M Get'Ms have some very cool patterns, but they aren't as comfortable as the Betty's.
