i played one at guitar center the other day, and i just fell in love with the bass, the feel of the next was great, and fast play. so whats your opinion on them?

i played one at guitar center the other day, and i just fell in love with the bass, the feel of the next was great, and fast play. so whats your opinion on them?
One of the standards in the Lexicon of Electric Bass Guitars - in other words they Rock!!!!
I got a Stingray 5 & it, to me, is a beast!!! So even across all strings-they ALL sound Superb, powerful & punchy. It is the ONE bass I own that is just SO consistant ALL OVER!! The build is good, feel's good, sounds good..... You just cannot go wrong w/ it. IMO the 'ray 4strings are just as good -in many ppl's opinion-even better!!!
had a stingray 4. loved it when i played by myself and play softly. when i played in a band setting and really dug in, i felt it honked hard.

Look pretty. Sound awesome.
Nice basses, and serious quality control going on, but even so, the one time I had a choice between three of them, one stood out tonally. Speaking of MM basses, there's a blue Sterling in the pawn shop across the street from me for $600. If anybody around here is interested, I could check it out or give you the phone # to the pawn shop or something. It's too good a bass to be hanging out there, that's for sure.

Good lord, the best bass on the planet for me anyways.
I love my Fenders, and my Rics, but live, it's the only bass I use.
Whatever you do, get the HH...that front pickup brings it into it's own NEW category.

love them! the bongo is my favorite bass ever. i have a SUB as well, it is mighty fine. eventually i would like a sterling, they feel pretty good too.
Music Man basses could be the best production basses out there. In my experience, they are as well made as just about anything I have laid my hands on (and that runs from old Fenders to new Sadowsky basses).

I had a fretless Stingray V for a while.
Pros:
Great truss-rod access.
Decent neck profile.
Reasonably priced.
Excellent (and consistent) build quality and material selection for a mass-produced instrument.
Cons:
Boat-anchor heavy to the point of serious discomfort.
Too many dead spots.
Poor B-string tension and focus, and the B-string tone didn't match that of its neighbors at all.
Inconsistent volume from string to string, no matter how it was dialed-in: a real nuisance.
Lousy upper-register access due to the bulky heel (crude ergonomics).
Weak sustain and generic/nondescript fretless tone.
Aesthetically nasty: All that spray-paint and plastic made it look and feel like a cheap toy.
Stringtree binding on the A and D strings.
FWIW, I played at least six different fretless Stringray Vs at the LA Bass Center before choosing this one (in spite of the ugly black 'n white color scheme), so it definitely wasn't a "lemon." All in all, I think Musicman basses are among the best factory instruments around...which is why I'll never bother with a mass-produced bass again.
