Presonus just released the Inspire 1394 (they can't call it Firewire legally) with 4 channels, 2 XLR ins and 2 unbalanced 1/4" high-z (read: plug your axe straight in) inputs. It's listing for about $200, I think. The best part? You can daisy chain up to four of them for more channels and inputs, just buy another one if you need more ins. Shoot, I'm thinking of picking one up, and I don't even need it really. Might be worth looking at. Oh yeah, it comes with Cubase LE, ACID XMC, 3 gigs of drum samples, and a ton of other goodies, too.

A BIG thumbs up for the Inspire 1394. I'm lovin mine.That, Sonar Home Studio 4 XL, and my Oxygen 8 and I'm set.

My setup includes a M-Audio Firewire 410 ,which is alote like presonus' FireBox and also is in the sameprice range and i have no complants, Cakewalk Homestudio 2004, bass podxt, and M-Audio keystation 49e (great entry level midi controller-no bells and whistels).

A PC with Windows XP (80GIG internal drive, 512 megs of RAM, CD burning drive, will be adding an external hard drive shortly at least 160 gigs or better and a DVD burning drive)

I currently use a GT6-B to record my bass into my PC, a POD to record the guitars and record the drums at the studio onto WAV...

We also record using my DJ headphones - just a mic attached to a headset. Sounds OK, but I need to improve it. Anyone got any recommendations for mics? Do I need a preamp or anything? It seems to be really quiet...

I use Acid Pro 4 (gonna upgrade to 5 soon) to record and Soundforge & Goldwave to edit the WAVEs...

I use a Behringer UB1202 (I think this is the model number). This is an inexpensive 6 channel mixer that accepts 4 1/4" and 2 XLRs. Then, I plug the output directly into my stock soundcard and record with Kristal. Cheap. Easy. Effective.

I record jams with 1 (one) Shure microphone, and am always surprised with how well the sound comes out.

My current setup is a D2424LV with a Soundcraft 328 for summing & routing. API lunchbox & Benchmark preamps feeding the recorder. Edirol UA-25 on my laptop for digital 2-tk in from the mixer. Ehthernet out from D2424LV to DAW. I also use a Masterlink sometimes for 2-tk. And a few pieces of outboard effects.

Audacity for 2-tk.
Krystal for multi-tk.

For bass, I like to use the line out from my B-15S into an Averill preamp. Sometimes blended with a mic in front of the same amp.
