I missed the memo, so can somebody please tell me how long it's been since "releasing" a recording became "dropping".
It's like not noticing any VW bugs in your locale, then somebody points one out to you and suddenly you see one on every street corner.
It seems like overnight (okay, a week, maybe a month maximum for me) I noticed that "dropping", "dropped", "drop" etc. became the hip slang term for releasing a record.
"That band is hot, they're about to drop a new record."
"We just dropped a new album and sales are already through the roof!"
"We're skipping vinyl and CDs, we're just going to drop our latest on iTunes"
etc.
