When did "release" become "drop"?

I like "Release" better.

yeah..but if you put it in the right context:

"After MC Fizzy-G was released from prison, he dropped his 2nd album.."

See, if we used the term released for both of those, it would sound redundant.

My thoughts exactly! Before twitter fell off, that was the on going joke in the computer class I was in.


I guess in a decade or two the cycle of words will repeat itself...time will tell.

Album is most certainly not synonymous with mixtape. A mixtape is an assortment of songs from an artist or genre that you make and give to your friend so they can hear something. A guess a demo could be a mixtape.

Probably about the same time the "pound sign" became "hash tag".

I cant really chime in here, I still use the term "album" and "record" even when addressing the fact that I "downloaded an album" lol

"Album" is proper. iTunes uses the term. What else would you call it?

That's how I would use the term. In fact I used to make them using cassette tapes. Hence the name!

But when I browse craigsslist, I see all sorts of references to "mixtape" where I would say "album" or "demo", as in, "Come to my studio to record your mixtape, only $30/hour" or "Auditioning new artists, send your mixtape"

It sounds trendy and cliché to me, like someone is trying hard to sound cool. I just roll my eyes when I hear that term, especially from some of my so-called local "talent."
