When Do You Change Strings

I used to let them slide until they either sounded really dead or broke (which knock-on-wood I have never broke a string.) Now I like to change them at least every other month. I love the sound of worn in strings, however love the punch and twang of new strings as well.

I change strings for three reasons:
1. The tone changes (i.e. really bright strings going dull)
2. I want to try a different type of strings.
3. I'm changing the tuning (i.e. setting a four string up for BEAD)

I just changed the strings on my P-bass that I've had for less than a month. Why? I bought four sets of strings from Jason and want to find what strings sound best on it!
