When do YOU use chorus?

I'm a pedal newb (after 20 years of playing without them). I have a Boss OC-3, a Line 6 Space Chorus (that a friend gave me), a Behringer Bass Synth, and a Boss LS-2 Line Selector on the way.

When do you use chorus? Do you use it to add to your other effects?

Do you use it by itself?

Also, any experience (or setting suggestions) for the Space Chorus would be helpful. I'm wading the the threads I found in the search I did for chorus.

I use chorus... never again. :D

On a serious note:

Although I actually choose not to use chorus,
I personally believe... that... chorus should be used alone... and or with no other effects. Or expect with things like... the equalizers and them compressors and such as. And that there is a problem with using the chorus with...
the overdrives and buzz and such as...

(okay, that wasn't so serious  :D :scowl:)

I can mimic an upright (or, really, an electric upright) by using a bit of chorus with my Stingray 5, and playing a certain way. I boost the treble on the bass to offset the muddying nature of the chorus.
Also, I've used chorus to hide intonation problems when playing a fretless bass. (It's cheating, I know...)

I use chorus most often in conjunction with delay for added depth/spaciousness.

It's also a good effect to use for subtle ambience in situations where a delay pedal is a little "too much."

but I really hate the way it sounds after a fuzz or overdrive. I only use it on clean tones.

...ironic humour is out of style now...

Not on TB it's not! :)

On topic, I lay it on thick if the songs *needs* it. Example: Don't stop believin' by Journey. The epitome of cheesey, yes- but a crowd-pleaser & a lot of fun to play, in an ironically humorous way. :D
Additionally, a very small amount can make the whole band seem bigger(again, good if that's what the song calls for). Lastly, 90% of the time I prefer it w/o anything else, but chorus+compression+a very short delay=(you guessed it)the 80s in a can. Use w/discretion...

I really only use it alone and to "enhance" my sound, ie to fill up more space sonically. My chorus tends to add more "brightness" to my sound, ie bringing out more of the harmonic sequence above the fretted note. At least thats how it sounds to my ear. It is also good for plucked harmonics. I often use it in softer parts of songs where I'm playing more legato type stuff up the neck. It can really make those notes sing.

You really don't want to go crazy with it, use it occasionally and the effect is greater.

I used to use chorus when I wanted to sound like a refugee from the '80s, but ironic humour is out of style now so I got rid of my chorus pedal.

LOL... :D

I use pedals in looping performances. I tend to use chorus on chords (I like the sound, and it may mask intonation issues as I'm playing chords on fretless). I also like the brightness it adds to harmonics.
And sometimes just 'cos I still enjoy that sound...

I use it for mellow parts in a few of my band's songs. But it's usually in conjunction with the parallel flanger effect of the same pedal (an EHX Stereo Electric Mistress). I also use it as part of an omnious distorted/delayed/wah'd/flanged/chorused bassy roar live... ;)

That reminded me of that Beauty Queen - 'I personally believe, that US Americans...' ;)

I most often use chorus (somtimes with delay) when I need to add some extra depth to the overall sound picture.
