Double Bass When seeing the light...

...is not what what you want to see.

I heard the crack, but a quick look round the table and back revealed no popped seams, so I picked it up and kept playing, and then something caught my eye.

It was a flash of light, I moved the bass around and there it was again - I could see daylight between the fingerboard and the neck.

Oh sod, so I slackened the strings and began to try to get in touch with my man.

Has anyone else had this happen, does it mean fingerboard off?

I can't get it seen to till the new year, luckily only electric gigs till then.

Slowly getting desensitized to these dramas, but it's still a shock.

Kevin..you didn't mention where on the board/neck you saw the light, but with the pop I'm sensing it must be at the bottom end.
I think you're doing exactly the right thing by loosening the strings and waiting for da man. I've had this happen many times, and if you wait, it should be no biggy.

The times this has happened to me , being a jazz player ( as I see you are ), it's the constant upward pulling pressure on the board when some of us clip our right thumbs under the FB to get a solid grip. That's the other end though.
I'm not a luthier, so I can't give advice.
You know what to do.

OT.....Man, I really enjoyed what you and your friends did with Favela..one of my all time favorite Brazilian tunes. I recorded it many years ago with Cal Tjader.
Loved the ending! Nice chart...Kudos to the piano player.....I like your relaxed feel and warm sound.

Have a little peace of mind that it's a fairly quick & easy repair. Don't re-tune the strings; the "firmly attached" fingerboard provides strength and stiffness to the neck. The neck alone may not hold the tension & you sure don't want to test it. Good luck.

Hello,

I'm sure all of you have been besides yourselves with worry about the state of my bass. Fear no more, it's back from the menders.

Well it actually looks like the bass had taken a knock, this must have happened after the last gig, it appears that the fingerboard was hit by probably a mike stand around the heel area - the Evah G has a nice dent in it, and the shock popped the fingerboard.

I had to put an old spirocore on for a gig last night as the Evah G is not useable, quite liked it actually, I put the rest of a four year old set on today.

So, rule is finish gig, put bass away safe, then go and have a drink and a natter.

So I'm heading of to the Evah Pirazzi thread to see if anyone has a tired G.

Or shall I go Spirocore E and A, Obligato D and G?
