Double Bass Where and when was this bass made?

Hi,
This bass has been in my family for about 40 years. We think it was made in Germany, but could anybody give information about the approx year of manufacture, or the region of Germany?

Other people are better at this than me, but I'm going weigh in with "between the wars". It looks quite at bit like mine, which was made in one of the factories just across the river in Czechoslovakia.

Yes, I've seen quite a similar bass labelled "made in Saxony". So somewhere in that region is plausible. Saxony is next to the Czech border.

My mid-century mid-European geography is a little thin, but that sounds right. Lore is that Wilfer, Hoefner, Juzek and a laundry basket of others were made in that region, sometimes by the same people in some of the same factories.

Mine has a Czech Karl Hoefner label. It looks a lot like some of those other basses sometimes.
