Where do you place your EQ?

Hi everyone. I did a quick search but couldn't find an answer specifically to the question I had.

*Note: This is completely disregarding ANY adjustment on the bass itself as I want a VISUAL reference when I set up for a gig and I don't want to have to guess the "sweet spot" on my bass preamp.*

When you place EQ after your bass in your chain, do you do it at the end (I currently use the MXR DI as a final EQ stage out), do you use it pre to setup the sound from your bass PRIOR to your signal entering the effects chain? Do you put it in the mix somewhere you might need a boost? A combination of the three?

What are your thoughts?

I put the EQ first then I split the signal into different effects then I recombine the signal. I use many different basses and the EQ pedal can compensate for big differences in basses

That's kind of what I was thinking. Multiple EQ stages. Depending on the bass O use, it may be easier to adjust the eq prior to effects so I don't have to modify the effects parameters. Then I can use my current EQ and DI combo at the tail end to clean up the final product.

EQ can go wherever you need it. In my case, I play a bass with piezo pickups, so I have an acoustic resonance enhancer pedal (which is just a fancy way of saying an EQ pedal) right after my tuner, and just before my compressor. I find I prefer the sound with eq then comp, instead of comp then eq.

I like it at the end but mostly to correct any ugliness in a room, especially when it's a small-medium room and/or the house sound is sketchy.
