Where is rock music headed?

I see bands like tool sell out the staples center all the time, I've been to plenty of death metal show's with a pretty good size crowd of people my age (24) and even younger, if your talking good led zep, pink floyd, AC/DC, etc rock its dead has been too

The new rock is country. As my band was setting up recently we played an Eagles CD. I thought "This is more country than anything we play." We play stuff like Miranda Lambert, Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Sugarland. those people could draw right there with the best hip hop artists. You also don't see country artists covering older country songs, they're covering older rock songs.

I once saw an interview with Jewel where she said of her new found country status "My music hasn't changed, what people catagorize it as has."

I agree. Every once in a while at work someone will play the local country station. It sounds just like the stuff we listened to back in the 70s. There's even one song (don't ask me which one!) where the guitar solo is a heavily overdriven minor-pentatonic solo that would make Eric Clapton or SRV proud! Simply remove the pedal steel, raise the male voices to a high tenor, and you've got classic rock. But as far as I'm concerned what they now play on country stations ain't country! At least not the country I remember as a lad!

Unfortunatley I agree apart from linkin park, green day (who I'm seeing later in the year) and system of a down rock is dead.

Even though this thread is dead I had to revive it. (ZOMBIE THREAD!!!)

Rock is NOT dead. Seriously. At all. No way. Not a chance. People need to wake up and start looking around at all the wonderful and amazing music that is being produced right now.

All that hip hop, tex-mex, rap and other marginalized styles we care little for are being absorbed by youth overseas as we speak. They'll study it, play it in clubs and eventually create a whole new genre of music and deliver it back to us as the new ROCK. That's exactly what happened on February 7, 1964.
