Where to get a shipping box for a bass?

Hey!

Where do all of you good folk get a box when you want to ship a bass by UPS?

Need to ship one in the near future...........

any guitar store or bicycle shop, or you can make a box with a screwdriver, shipping tape, and a box cutter out of 4'x8' single or double ply cardboard that you can get from a shipping supply or art gallery

If you're shipping multiple shipments a year it's almost better ordering them from ULine.com. When you ship in a reused box UPS will only rate the box at 70% of its original weight capacity. If something happens and an insurance claim is filed that is the first thing they attack to avoid paying out. If you make your own box with pieces of recovered cardboard and tape - you're in the same shape, only worse. For $40-50 you can get 5 boxes online shipped to you at http://www.uline.com/BL_7906/Guitar-Boxes. Your UPS store should also have them but the last time I checked they wanted $19 for the box and $12 to pack it.

In a pinch, I've fashioned them from cardboard boxes sitting near the local grocery store's dumpster.

If GC won't give one to you, order a bass from them online, then return it to the store. Free box!

my ups will charge around $40-50 for a box large enough for a bass. box stores usually have them for under $15.

I have received a guitar box for free from Music Go Round. I also buy guitar boxes at UPS for $9.95 ... pack it myself
then ship via Fedex.

The best way is to buy a new bass. It'll come with a free box!

I buy them straight from U Line unless I have a box from a recent purchase.

All of my local music stores are stingy with giving them away. It very much depends on the mood of the person you happen to talk to.

I made a box out of some cardboard I picked up from an auto glass shop. Lots of cutting and corner shaping involved but it's doable and you can't beat the price.

Reverb also sells them. $30 for 3. After awhile, it becomes a pain to drive around asking for free boxes.
