Hi everyone At the moment I have the cheap Fishman BP-100 but this is no good as my double bass is very woody and the sound the pickup gets does no justice to the resonance of the instrument. Ive been researching AMT Double Bass Microphone's and other things that will amplify the sound rather than a pickup. But i have no idea where to find them in the uk. Also is there some magic shop that exists somewhere in the uk where you can test amplification for double basses, or just plain buy them!! cheers
I am afraid that my searches over several years revealed a definite "No" to your last question - although I'd love to know about anything you find! I have ended up buying that kind of stuff by reading all the threads/discussions around here and then ordering stuff from the US via mail order. I found the Revolution Solo as a good compromise - a pickup that actually reproduces the natural sound of your bass, almost like a mic! I ordered one from Upton in the US - no problems!
Aiden, it seems you either have to order stuff unseen/unplayed round here or find a bassist that already has it fitted. I have a Mienel bass fitted with an Underwood and an Upton Professor with a Full Circle. I have all sorts of amps, incl AI, Henricksen, GK and EA speakers. And the good bit is I live in Swerford, Oxfordshire so you could come round and try. Regrettably I don't have any mics but I have Realist and Rev Solo pickups that you would be welcome to try/borrow/buy if you want.
