Which 100W combo? Ampeg or Ashdown

Which one would you choose in my situation?

Hey myhot4, whats the Jade like? I have seen them around on Ebay but I dont really know anything about them other than they are Made in Australia.. or is it just put together here?

I found a Yorkville XM200 for $500 but then add $60 onto that for courier and thats gettin a bit too expensive. Unless its that good?

The Jade is ok. As I said I got mine used, and the speaker has a worn in character. This is not necessarily a bad thing, or maybe its because its a 15". Great value for the money and loud for its size. Tone wise, it was actually very versatile. It is responsive, to the way you play. It has a mid shift button. When engaged, it enhances the mids, so you get a rocky tone, Think Duff Mckagan or Billy sheehan tone. When off it is like a clasic 15" smooth. I use it for rehearsals and it works well for that. It can do small stages and clubs no probs. Any bigger you'd want to get something bigger.

I don't know about the Ampeg amp being asked about by the thread starter as I haven't seen one in the UK but the Ashdown mentioned is not one of the top of the range models but taken from the buget range.
Ashdown gear of today is not to be confused with the Ashdown gear made when the company started out sad to say.

I was assuming it was budget line considering it was only $400AUD for a brand new one where your roland cubes and your BA115's are closer to $1000. It seems that a lot of people are mentioning the quality differences between the old and the new.

Just to point out I didnt end up getting the Ampeg, it went for $411 which +courier would have been $488 which I decided was too much. I am looking at a yorkie XM200C right now but I am getting to that stage where I think whether I have other things i need to put the money into.

I own a BA115HP and have owned for two years. I would not describe the tone as "sterile" . It has an Ampeg tone to it. i wuld call it "warm" not as warm as a tube Ampeg but it's in no way "sterile".

I also owned a BA115 before this amp. I felt the tweeter was too "hissy" and it really annoyed me at low volumes. It sounded very much like my BA115HP just with more hiss and less volume.

I got a BA115T at Zzounds for $349.0o US..,New. The "T" designates a single tube pre amp. I had to disconnect the tweeter though....the hiss was making me want to go on a killing spree:mad: . To disconnect it I had to remove the blow hole covers on the back and pull the White and blue wires off the four way plate on the 15 inch speaker. Thats it. The amp sounds much warmer now and much louder also.:hyper:
