Someone asks you to recommend 2 albums to listen to, so they can get what all the fuss is about when you bang on about bass.
I'd probably go for Primus 'Frizzle Fry' and Coroner 'R.I.P.' although by the time I press send I will have changed my mind.

As to recommendations;
Two is not enough, so I'd say "if they really want to know, they should just listen to the music they like and try understand the function of the instrument in the context of that"
Maybe I'd point them towards some players that collectively say a lot about the bass- steve swallow, james jamerson,gary willis,paul chambers, scott lafaro,dave holland and maybe tony levin and possibly jeff schmidt for a little taste of that solo bass thing, some are into..
There's obviously more, but these cover a decent range to start of with without venturing too far into "gimmick land".
