Hi! I believe a used Lakland 55-02 would be the best - both in quality and versatility. The "B" string is also probably the best.
As a second choice to that, I would consider the StingRay 5 with the MM/J pickup combo.
And by buying used, if things dont work out, you can sell either of those 2 basses and not loose much money.
