Read a thread from 2006 about which is the best onboard preamp. Great info, but I want a more focussed response... Please?
I have a Birdsong Corto... And it is brilliant! I bought it on the strength of it's size not it's tone. It is soooooo comfortable and playable, so well made and, dare I say, so good to look at. I use it with an Ashdown superFly or a Marshall DBS 400 and Marshall DBS 4-10 and Eden Nemisis (1x15) cabs. Problem is, the guys in the band just don't like the sound! I have a Stingray and an Ibanez SR500(flat wounds) and they sound great through the same rig... And the guys like the sound. I've tried the Birdsong through a Hartke and SWR Goliath cab and the sound was a little better...
Now I know short-scales lose a little on the bottom end, so what I'm looking for is an on-board preamp that will give me back that bottom end and a broad tonal sound band for flexibility. The Birdsong has two Lace passive pick-ups (a Sensor on the neck and a ?on the bridge) that I will not change. It has three control knobs on the front (so 3 holes) and a P bass sized rear cavity. I like stacked switches and would prefer an active system... So what do ya think? I'm not gonna quit the band (just love the guys and the music!) and I'm not gonna give up my fantastic Birdsong... Just need a solution to find a fit for the two together.... PLEASE HELP!
