Which adapters for converting 1/4" instrument cable to 1/8" mic jack on my computer?

I want to do some basic recording of riffs, or possible soundclips of pedals. I am planning on running a 1/4" instrument cable from my effects loop send direct to my computer. So I think I would need a 1/8" Male to 1/4" Female adapter. Do I need a stereo-mono, mono-stereo, stereo-stereo, or mono-mono? I want something of decent quality so I won't have to replace it and so I won't have to worry about signal loss. I found this - Invalid Link Removed - it looks like it will work fine for this, but I read a couple bad reviews.
 
Depends on the inputs of your soundcard. if you don't need a buffer I'd probably just cut the end off a cheap guitar cable and put on a mono 1/8" plug on it. If you don't want to do the soldering, just get a 1/8" to 1/4" adaptor. I'd stick with mono.

I am not sure how capable your sound card is, however if it is a "stock" soundcard you may/will find less than acceptable results for your recording needs. If you are worried about signal loss from an adapter, than you probably want to look at a recording interface.

Recording interfaces are ridiculously cheap now. You can find a USB interface for less than $30 at Big Box Guitar:

The only software you need is Audiacity, available legally and free from here:

I use Audiacity all the time... sometimes over Cubase and Samplitude. It is very easy to work with.

I use a slightly more expensive set up. I bought a "pod casting" set up from Sam Ash that included a small six channel mixer, an MAudio interface, and two microphones... all for less than $150. I use it to record my band and myself. Works great.

Thanks for all the info, but I probably don't need much than an adapter for my purposes. I just want to be able to record riffs, and send song ideas to my bandmates. I shouldn't have said I'm concerned with signal loss, I just want something of decent quality.

It would work, but I would use a mono one personally. If you're applying the signal to 2 channels the bass will see half the input impedance. If it's active, that probably doesn't make a noticeable difference. If it's passive, it may or may not depending mostly on the input impedance of the line-in on the card.
