Which Bass Do You Wish You Still Had?

I tried really hard to think of a bass that I 'wish I still had' and realised that there isn't really one .

I've had some amazing basses in the last 5 years (Wal, Status, Sadowsky, CS Fender, vintage Fender etc.), but I parted with all of them because there was some aspect or other that I didn't like, or I just felt that I didn't really need a bass of that quality/price.

These are just some of the basses that I've off-loaded in the last 3 years ...

... and all I have now are some 'copy' basses ...

... but it's enough for me .

Slightly against the grain of this thread, I know, but if it helps anyone else to get over bass GAS, then it's worth posting IMO .

Sold my 1st "good" bass in 1976, a Ric 4001 to buy a just introduced Leo bass called a Stingray. The Ric had a screwed up truss rod. Paid about $600 for the MM, sold it in 1982 for
$250 (OUCH) to buy Leo's new creation- G&L. I don't have the G & L anymore either due to GAS.

It would also be nice to have my Univox Hiflyer again, but they're not worth the price tag on them these days.
My original cost $115 in 1972 and was a POS compared to the "starter" basses kids can get these days.

I regret selling my first bass. A late 70's model black Gibson Ripper. Not a great bass by any means but I regret selling it for nostalgic reasons.

Wish I still had my '72 Fender Jazz that got stolen back in '93. I also kick myself every time I think about the Alembic Distillate I sold in '89 so I could pay some bills.

A lesson to everyone. There's no reason to leave an instrument somewhere. It's very easy to carry with you.

I bought a Gibosn EB 2 in 1974 and a Fender Musicmaster Bass in "77. Sold 'em both less than a year after buying them. I wish I had 'em both. Maybe I wouldn't like either of them as much as my current basses, but I'll never know, will I?

My first bass was one of these in red. Thanks for finding the great photo.

I wish I'd kept my first bass....a red Sekova Vulcan hollowbody. Yeah, they actually did cover part of the F-hole with the pickguard....never could fathom that.

There are two. In the early 1980's I had a 1978 Fender Jazz bass with a Sienna finish. It was the best sounding and playing bass I have ever owned. Unfortunately, my drummer stole it and traded it for some other gear. He eventually paid me for it but I have never found another bass like it. The other bass I wish I had is my Alembic 5 string. I wasn't using the low B very much so I traded the bass for an Alembic 4 string. Now I wish I had kept the 5.

The Bass in my sig. PRS Bass IV. Played that thing 4-5/week for 10+ years. Back of the neck was worn to bare wood and the buckle rash was of epic proportion. Sounded and played amazing, why I ever sold it is beyond me.

I guess the only Bass I regret selling is my 1982 Gibson Victory Custom. I was young and married with children and my band broke up and I was making payments on the Vic and my L4 amp so they had to go. Maybe someday Ill get the Vic back ,but you dont see the customs often , and they are always asking twice what I paid for mine and realy the price back then was what it was worth.

The 2nd bass I ever owned. an 86 Ric 4003. It would probably collect dust, but it would be worth a lot more than the $600. I paid new for it in 86. The only bass I regret selling.

This. Squier Affinity P, 20th Anniversary model. It just fit me perfectly.. Now I'm really GASing for another P-Bass.

Me too. But I did have a bb3000 MA Michael Anthony signature model stolen from me. The higher end one with the set neck and the Chili Pepper inlays on the frets and his signature on the headstock. I miss that things and have been uanle to locate another. They must be more rare than I thought.
