Which Bass make is best?

I play a Fender but just from pure interest I was wondering what you guys consider to be the best basses?

PBASSIST1, I see you just joined. This kind of topic has been discussed and debated and fought over so much here that many people are quite jaded. Some people get downright nasty in their assessment of certain brands or models and we've had some crazy flame wars over the whole brand thing. It really is stupid, and immature, but that's the Internet for you.

I think the majority of us agree that there is no such thing as a "best bass" and many of us own basses of differing brands and models.

Please don't take the negative comments here personally. This is just one of those hot topics that really sets people off.

I believe Ibanez Prestige series nukes anything up to and including American built Fenders. The CS line from Fender may be on par quality wise with Prestige.

Hmmm, let's see...

UK prices: around £1.40 per litre for diesel, which equates to $8.39 per US gallon.

So over here a V8 Chevy is probably equivalent to a 7-string bass - some like them, most don't and they cost a lot more to restring/fuel.

I guess it all comes down to the player and their needs.

I have seen traditional R&B played on modern basses and I have seen modern progressive metal played on beat up vintage basses so you never know.

I guess the "best bass" is the one that makes you happy.
