The first bass I played on was a crappy peavy p-bass. I'm pretty sure the body was made out of styrofoam. Anyways, I hated playing it and obviously had no idea why. It definitely wasn't the sound because I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. I then got an ibanez and realized why I hated that peavey so much. The shape and feel of the neck. I can't stand the really deep necks like the ones on fenders and such. I think it's most important when starting off, even if you can only play a 1-4-5 pattern ( ex. G,C,D), to consider the feel of the bass as the most important factor. I've sold both of those guitars long ago and have had my Modulus Quantum 6 string since 2002. Finally got something I felt was perfect for me and I will probably be buried with it.
