It depends on your playing style I would suggest trying both of those, as well as a J, and seeing which sounds and feels better to you.

Or a Fender Precision. Either one will do just fine.

Don't know about the Ibanez but the Thunderbirds don't have any hi frequences at all. Just recorded a guy with an original expensive Thunderbird but faced the problem with it's highs and mids. The low end is nice though.

There are plenty of 3-piece ensembles (even more if you exclude singers), and each play different kinds of bass. From EMG-loaded Spectors to Fenders. Muse, Nirvana, System Of a Down, RHCP, Pantera, ...Hell, Chris Wolstenholme can play anything and fill the space. Have you tried a T-Bird pro or Iceman?

Adding some effects can help give you more range (bit of dirt, bit of Chorus, octaver, whatever).

+1 For spector. You might pay a little more, but its definately worth it for the sound and feel. If you want a different shaped bass, There is the Spector Rox or Rex (Dont know what they're calling it now) which is Rex Browns sig. Its really similar to the T-bird.
