Which bass should I pick? (it's kinda urgent)

I say go to your local music go round and try out some basses and get the one that speaks to you

I'd like to go to the local store, but they don't even have basses lmao. I live in a smalllll town. And basses are expensive for me cuz i'm 14 and I don't wanna spend much on a new instrument. My piano is about 100 years old and used to belong to my mother's grand-mother, so I didn't have to pay for it ahahah. I think i'll have to go with the peavey, the samick one was just sold. i'm waiting for the owner's answer

Peavy. I had a Cirrus that a was fine instrument. I gotta believe that applies at least somewhat to their import lines. Stuff is all built like a tank. I've played some Samicks. Solid, but not as solid as a Peavy. IMHO. But as many have said, if you can play them both you'll know for sure then. Good luck and welcome to the bass world. I'm sure you have a good left hand. :)

Peavey has an incredible history of durability and quality. There affordability has given them an image of not being "high end" and folks with big bucks will usually buy something else. But I've never heard anyone say a bad word about their durability and quality - and that's true with the amps as well as instruments. Really great stuff.
I'm at the point where I can afford to buy most instruments I want, yet I still own four Peavey basses. No reason to spend more when you find what you want for less.

I know some of the Fury's were made in the U.S. but that was awhile back.

Good luck on the peavey, haven't tried that particular model, but have loved every other peavey I've come across.

I have a 25w ampeg. Would pay no more than $50 USD to replace it. It's great for home practice, and most situations that have no drums.

I also have a Rumble 100, and it can do rehearsals with drums and small gigs. I have a 2nd 100 for bigger gigs.

So.... all depends on your goals. It's nice to have a portable practice amp, but IME 100w and up to start playing with drummers

Couple things going on. First probably won't hurt it if you don't turn it up - a modern bass returns a stronger signal than a vintage guitar. Second probably will - guitar amps aren't designed to handle bass frequencies because guitars aren't capable of producing the same sounds. So the speaker would be driven at lower frequencies, meaning it will move longer in one direction than it's designed for. A surprisingly small spike at very low frequencies can damage a guitar amp speaker, especially with an older amp which might not have circuitry to cut out frequencies below it's safe limit. It's like having a perfectly good economy car and saying "I have this house I need to move . . ." You'll also be tempted to turn it up because a bass needs a lot of power to move a lot of air, and especially if it's a combo amp with a small speaker you'll have everything working against you. You could only safely run it at very low level; you'd need to turn it way up to make it usable. Catch 22.

If you want to practice while waiting to buy/looking for a decent amp, you can usually get a bass headphone amp pretty cheap (as low as $20 on Dr. Evil's Amazing Amazon) and delivered in a couple days. Any decent headphones will work - it'll sound crappy but at least you won't destroy your dad's old amp. Personally if you choose to go this route I'd take $20 with 3 stars over $40 with 5 stars because unless you need to play quietly a lot, the utility will be very limited. I also have a Vox Bass Rhythm which plays backing drum beats and is loads of fun, but unless you find one on sale for $30 (what I paid for each of mine on a Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day) you want to stay clear because again, it's only useful for playing by yourself and especially with headphones. You don't want take too much money away from your purchase of a REAL, useful amp you can play with friends. Of course, that $99 25W Rumble amp might be a better buy if you won't be playing with friends any time soon; otherwise you'll almost immediately be looking to buy a better amp. It'll also drive headphones better than the headphone amps.
