Modulus Flea...? That seems to be the tone you want, if the video you posted is an indication. I *loved* my old Modulus Quantum... can't play 35" scales, though, unfortunately. Is this the tone you're after?

It's 1 fret. Really, not a huge deal. If you're going to have a problem with 20 frets, then go for a 24 fret bass so you have the whole two octaves on each string, which helps a lot if you're improvising.

Fender and Ibanez make 24-fret basses, but you'd probably do best to wait until you get to America, then go around to our multitude of guitar stores and play the hell out of every bass you can, THEN make your decision.

Well then hell man, don't waste a damn penny... wait it out, from what i've seen in currency values, you can get a MUCH better instrument here than over there for the price...


how about the kid in Germany awhile ago (or finland?) idk, but his two choices were a Warwick 6 TH Thumb... or a Fender Deluxe P (Which is a MIM Bass, that is if im thinking of the right one, The Fender is weak in this one) we thought he was ******** trying to compare them in construction, and value... Apparently the Fender is more expensive there, running close to $2,000.... Here is $600...

Save your money, wait till your here bro, you'll be happy. HELL... Maybe even sell your basses in Australia for inflated prices and come here with nothing but an amp... Maybe you could sell that to.

Yeah, something like that as well. But it'd be forever before I can afford a Modulus.

I'll see if I can haggle at the store, if I can't, then I'll just wait till II got to America. Is two 10 watt guitar amps really worth taking? I'll just sell them (try to). :p

Absolutely. I just got a Peavey T40 from the US, and incl USPS Global Express, I spent just over $A400. It's mint and I love it.

Compare what I could have bought new locally for the same money.

I'm going to splurge on some pickups soon because the rates and therefore prices are so good.

Sell 'em here. Unless they're a rare classic / vintage you'll spend more than their value as excess baggage which is just money wasted as you'll be able to score something equivalent, or likely a lot better, for the same money in the US.

+1 to "buy one in the US"

If you're staying for a while, you have time to look for a great deal on used gear. At the amount you're looking at spending right now, you'll find dozens (maybe hundreds) of great used basses.

I came to the US with 1 bass, I have since bought 4 more (and sold 1). All of them bought either used or way below regular price.

If those are the only two basses you would chose from, I would agree with most others and say the Fender. Like Juggernaut said, Fender does make a 24 fret Jazz bass now that sells for about $700.00. If there are other brands that might intrest you, I own a Lakland Darryl Jones signature model which has 21 frets. It sounds and plays great and would fit the tone of what Flea is doing these days. The other bass talked about was the Modulus Flea signature bass. If you buy it new, it's a little over $2,000, however they go for a little over $1,000 on eBay used which is a great deal on that bass.

Ok, I'll wait...I had a look at the MusicMan Sterling last night on the GC website. According to the description, it seems to have what I want.

But I saw this on eBay. It's the old Fender Precision Special. But the guy doesn't give the specs. Does anyone know if it's active or passive (I prefer passive, but active is fine)? Jazz neck? Does it have a switch for switching between P and J..or both? Pics? :p

Current bid is $400AUD ($330.52USD)...how much do you think it's worth?
