which bass?

so i've been playing bass for over a year and a half, i have a cheap ibanez, and i think it is time for me to upgrade. the question is go with another 4 string or 5 string. a local is selling a ray 34 for $400, which is the bass that i really want, i absolutely love the tone of that bass, but its a four string. my budget is 500, so i cant get the ray 35. i want to get a bass soon because i have my first gig in less than 2 weeks, and the ****** ibanez bass does not sound good. the string basses im interested in are the schecter custom 5 string, which someone is selling for 500, problem is, is that it doesnt sound like the ray 34 but it does have a sweet tone.

fellow experts, what should i do?

My advice would be to not let the upcoming gig pressure you into buying something.

Anyway, you'd be better off doing that gig with the ibanez that you know like the back of your hand, however ****** you might feel it is.
