Which Basses Match These Specs?

Origin: US or German made only

Strings: 4

Body: P-Bass

Width at Nut: 1.5 inches

Pickups: Passive P/J configuration

Preamp: Optional

Budget: Up to 1,500 GBP

Essentially I'm looking for a P body with a J neck. Any suggestions?

Fender's deluxe active p-bass special has a Jazz neck, precision body with a p pickup in the neck position and a j pickup in the bridge position. I am not sure where this model is made.

The SB-2 is indeed a fabulous instrument, the neck is thinner, narrower and (for me) faster than a P.

It has a very unique pup setup.. the neck pup is pretty hot, so large degrees of tone variation occur with simple volume control and then the bridge pup is additional tone adjust..

Both the G&L SB-2 and the Fender P-bass Special are excellent instruments that meet your requirements.
You could also build a Warmoth parts bass within that price range.
I suspect Nino Valenti would fall within your price range as well.

Slightly off topic, but this post reiterates the need for something I was dreaming of this morning.

I'm not technical enough to develop it, but it would be fantastic to have a searchable database of every bass manufacturer known to TB where a player could open the page, enter some search criteria, and have a full list of basses that match what he/she wants. It would have things like pickup configuration, active/passive, body woods, fretboard woods, number of frets, number of strings, width at nut, width at 24th fret, string spacing, body concavity, onboard controls, and anything else people look for in a bass.
