Which cab to pick with my 2001RB head?

My name is Julius and it's my first time posting on this site even though i've been streaming through it for the past 4 years.

I'm looking to purchase GK NEO's really soon either one new cab like the 4x12 at 4ohm, or 2 new cabs like the 2x12 8ohm and a 1x15 8ohm depending on tone. I originally thought about the Bergantino 4x12, but they are discontinued and I rather buy new.

It's really hard for me to test these GK NEO 12" cabs in my area.
I have a 2001RB head and I've tested the amp on the 4x10RBH and 1x15RBH bi-amped and fell in love with the tone and balance. I even got to test the Fusion 550 with the same speakers. I do know the RBH are not NEO speakers. I'm hoping the tone and balance are at least similar.

I really have my eyes set on the GK 4x12 because of the convenience of casters and handle bar. But I'm also interested after looking on this site what the GK 2x12 has to offer as a stand alone cab and maybe getting more GK growl since I can get the 2x12 in 8ohm. Maybe even pair it with the GK NEO 1x15 8ohm for added depth.

I do have a 4x10 Avatar 4ohm and a 1x12 Avatar 4ohm and I can't seem to get the GK growl due to large amount of volume, plus I can't Bi-amp my rig. I know that Bi-amping is a big topic on this site, but it's my cup of tea I guess you can say. I'm really looking for someone thats familiar with these NEO cabs, GK growl, and Bi-amping.

If anyone has a sound clip of the 4x12 with great tone and balance plus the GK growl, :hyper:
I would be sold on getting this cab.

Hey there,

I gigged with dual 2x12Neos for a year and a half or so (with a 1001RB-II) and it has definitely been my favorite rig. I tried out the head with a 412Neo and it sounded amazing, too, but I couldn't help but feel that the dual cabinets were more "there" or full-sounding. Might have just been perception, though. You really can't go wrong with either configuration, though.

I also used to run through a GK 410RBH cab and while I loved it, the 212Neo knocks it out of the park in clarity and punch. I would say that the general tone is very similar, but the Neo cabinets have a "sharper" or more immediate response, if that makes sense at all.

I got my dual 2x12Neos from Musicians Friend during a holiday sale and the customer support was fantastic, by the way.

Good luck with the hunt! :bassist:

Alecduncan- your dual 2x12 neo cabs, were they 8ohm each and did you get the growl or grit?

John m- what amp do you have?

Tallboybass- did you get some growl or some grit coming out of the 4x12?

I don't usually push the GK too far into the "growl" level, just a little bit of boost. I also run a Fender PB1 preamp into the effects loop and switch to that for "older" rock/country tunes. When the Fender pre is kicked in, I'll use some of it's overdrive sound, and turn the GK horn off via the biamp feature on the amp.

Thanks bro! Much appreciated!
We're from Croatia, Europe. I take it you're from California?
Not too close huh :)
Oh well, if you're (or we're) ever near by! :D

Croatia might be far for me, but the way you guys sound, I don't see why you don't travel! Maybe even California? PM me if you ever stop by!

I really like your tone. Reminds me of Geddy Lee from Rush. Are you using effects?

I was using VT Bass v2 (speaker sim off) as an always on tone shaper. I no longer have vt, I'm waiting for my darkglass vintage microtubes to arrive as its replacement. There's a short clip in that video where I'm using distortion + delay with swell effect. I use a bunch of effects, but vt bass was the only thing on pretty much during this clip.
