Which cab with Eden head ?

Hey all,

I've recently purchased an Eden WT800 head and am now in the market for a cab. After a few threads (:ninja:) I've come to realize a 4x10 would be preferred. After browsing through the Eden Club thread, I've realized that most users used Eden cabs. I've also been told to check Bergantino. After browsing through the thread, I did see some people using Bergantino cabs with Eden heads. The two cabs I am currently looking at are the Eden D410XLT and the Bergantino HS410. Which one would you recommend and why ? I mostly play funk / rock / pop music.

Thank you sir !

the 4x10xlt is a very mid oriented cab. It gives out lots of low mids and great growl. It handles extreme power easily if you match the ohms correctly. For rock, it's perfect to let you cut the mix easily.

another popular cab is the 2x10xst, which handles deep lows very very well. It can go down to 30 hz or something like that. Paired with an xlt, you can cover the entire frequency range.

Lastly, a lot of people are fans of the 2x12xlt. I'm not too familiar with it.

I like the tone of my wt550 with my bergantino 112's. clear mids if you want 'em, nice smooth highs compared to other cabs like aguilar gs112 or swr pro line (1999). the low end of the berg 112's is a lot lighter than say the aguilar, but can be thickened up nicely with a click or two of the low or low semi-para.

not totally sure, but some eden 410s might be a bit more 'clancky' in the tweeter, maybe not as smooth a transition through the frequency range. and might me naturally more 'dark' overall.

I've never heard bergantino 10's, but people rave about the NV610...

The description of the D410XLT's tonal characteristics above is quite accurate. They also project quite nicely. The Bergantino I'm not familiar with, but if the XLT's description sounds good to you, you should be happy. They're also very popular and easy to find a buyer for if you don't like it.

I have a 410XLT and also a 210XLT/210XST setup and either way, you will have a very nice tone. The 410XLT is a bit of a brute to haul around as it weighs in at about 97 pounds, but most older 410's are in that weight range.

I love the punch and growl this cab produces. You can't go wrong. The 410XLT has become an industry standard.

The 410XLT is a lot louder than you think it is standing up close to it. It really projects, not just out the front, but out the sides, so I recommend that you have someone check your sound around the room so you don't drown out the entire band.

IME, brand on brand usually sound best w/ one another. nevermind that the EQ on said amp will probably sound best w/ the cab its been voiced alongside with. the XLT is ok, but i much prefer the more expansive not as lower middy bumped sounding XST sib. great cab, but man, its a heavy mother.

the HS410 is a terrific cab, too. not quite as harsh in the upper end as the eden XLT, with a slightly softer lower mid bump, for a sweeter less aggressive sound than the eden XLT. love the fact its also pretty darn slim and easy to carry around @ a rather svelt 86 lbs.

i also really dig the epifani ps410 w/ the 800, too. has a similar sound to the HS410, yet its upper end articulation is a bit different. like the Q on the highs has been moved up a few notches for a more airier sound. its also a bit rounder on the bottom end where the extra goose goes from the lower mids all the way down to the lows. weighs less than the HS410 @ 79 lbs., but its a rather bulky carry with a box that's much larger than the berg cab.

One thing to check is the model of your WT800. If it's a new one (B or C), you can bridge into 4ohms. If it's an older one you can only bridge into 8 ohms.

The BergHS410 is only available in 4ohm version, so that would not work with the older WT800.

I recently spent some time with my HS210 and an EdenWT550 and didn't dig that match-up at all... too much 'mid voice on mid voice' for me... very 'mid congested' to my ear that I couldn't dial out, versus the other heads we tried with it(Ag500, F1, Mesa600, etc.), so that would not be my choice unless you REALLY like the mid mids and upper mids in your tone. It did growl though!

I love the Eden WT800 with the XLT for punch but still a nice open low end, or the XST for a wider, smoother tone would be great, per Joker's comments.

I have a number of peers who are doing the pop/funk thing who use the WT800 with the Epi410UL, and that sounds really nice also.. more similar to the XST410 than the XLT410... nice and light and loud, and comes in both 4 and 8ohm versions like the XLT.

Bergantino also has a new neo 410 out that is just starting to ship. From early reviews, it might not be as mid voiced as the HS line, and therefore IMO might work very well with the WT800. However, it again only comes in 4ohm version, so careful there unless you have a new WT800.

Edit: Two 4 ohm 210XST's with a WT800 running in 'stereo' sounds so good it makes me weep a little!

I did post over there, but like I thought, all I got were answers about the Eden cabs. That's why I like TalkBass it's not focused on one brand.

Most of you suggested 2x10. I also thought, at first, getting a small cab (1x12) but I was told I was going to get drowned by the band. My guitarist uses a Peavey Valve King 100w Tube. Would he drown me up ? All of this is for my graduation gift. I think I have 200$ left.. 800$ from my part is a lot. One 2x10 and another later seems alright... except if I'd get drowned up.

My personal flavor, I don't like the 410XLT all alone. But that's due to my tonal needs. I'm doing a LOT of 5-string low B playing, and it needs just a bit deeper tonality. I don't know what your tonal needs are. Modern rock, prog rock, jazz fusion, funk, slap bass, you'll love the 410XLT. If you're into metal, thrash, old school classic rock, even country, then you'll want to try out a cab with the XST design. I've played a 410XST, and it was frightening how deep and rumbling that cab got. Truly powerful. If Michigan didn't have such a crap economy and my company was doing a bit better, I woulda snagged that cab in a heartbeat. I tested it with a WT800 bridged into it, and it was flawless.

Now, there have been suggestions of doing a 210XLT and a 210XST. This is very good advice. Cuz you get the midrange growl bite and midrange strength, and the low end rumble and tightness, all in one pair of cabs. And each individual cab is lighter and easier to carry than one 410 cab. Just gotta make two quick trips instead of one laboring trip.

I dunno the availability of Eden gear in your neighborhood. But it is definitely worth a road trip to a store who stocks them, to really test them out and see what you prefer. Plan a Saturday, fill the tank, grab a stack of new CD's you haven't listened to yet, and start cruising! My band has sacrificed many a road trip in the quest for tone. So far, we haven't regretted one single trip.

I'm in Funk / Modern Rock / Jazz.. and use a 4 string. I guess the XLT would be good enough ? Or I might want to check those 2x10. As for the full tank and quick trips.. well.. a 7 hour ride is the closest.

if said guitar player were to crank that 100 watter, a single 1x12 is not going to do you any good whatsoever.

IME, if he's using a 2x12 100 watt combo amp, a pair of 1x12's would actually be ok. at least in my past w/ aguilar and epifani 1x12's go, i've been ok against a few fender twin reverbs elevated to mike bloomfield like volumes.

but if he's plugging that sucker into a 4x12 halfstack, you need to move more air, and a single 4x10 or a 2x10 / 1x15 or a pair of 2x10's is a must.

The Eden 212XLT is a great inbetween cab for more low end, good growl and a smoothe bass tone. I pair mine up with a 410XLT. For everyone saying the 410XLT does not have a lot of low end, they are correct. It has more growl than low end especially with my 5 string. Pairing up a low end crazy cab with the 410XLT results in some excellent low end tones.

I know the 210XST keeps coming up as a decent cab - I think it is a bit overrated. It definitely goes low, but the cab seems to have a super clear low end that is really hard to hear in the band setting, much less feel. The midrange is just about non-existant on that cab and the upper mids and extreme highs are astoundingly articulate - almost to the point of being too much.

Definitely try some Eden cabs out, you will see if they suit your tastes.

IME, stick with Eden, SWR, and Acme cabs when using an Eden head. I've used eden power with both bergantino and aguilar cabs, and didn't think either one matched up well.

I have a 410XLT now, which I think has better tone than the 210XLTs I used for years. Its a great cab, period. I also briefly had a 210XST, which sounded fantastic, but I had to send it back due to a problem with one of the drivers :(

If you like punch and growl, get XLT cabs. If you like clean and clear (but still definitely "the Eden tone") then go with the XST.

If you like 15s Eden makes a great one, and the 212 is supposed to be awesome (though hard to find!) ... lots of good options :)

I use my 800b bridging 1200 watts into:
Schroeder 410L; Henry 8x8
bi-amping into:
2x Schro 1212L or 2 Mesa Diesel 115's or
Dr Bass 1260+ LDS 2x8+5

It's a great head, and so far, has sounded great thru a lot of stuff.

I realise none of these are the choices you mentioned, but, there ya go.

Then the 410XLT is gonna work perfectly for you. I wouldn't worry about it.

However, if you really want to test things out, it MIIIIGHT be worth it to you, to order up two different cabs and then keep the one you want.

You got a store locally that carries Eden stuff? Or are you gonna online order this? If so, order up the 410XLT, the 210XST, and the 212XLT. Try all three. Then ship back what you don't want.

YEAH YEAH I KNOW I KNOW SHIPPING CHARGES. But.... there's an incredible value here. DEMO TIME. You can have three completely different-flavored tones from these cabs, and can jam ALL you want at home. You can take your sweet time to noodle all you want! In a store, you're probably gonna have two hours max of reasonable testing time. With other bassists testing stuff out too. Or rookie kids trying to play Green Day riffs, pooooorly. And you won't be allowed to truly crank it. And you'll have to do a ton of driving.

So order three, take your time testing, return the two you don't want. Who knows? You might end up keeping two of them as a great combo!

IMHO An Eden head with a 210xlt is a great sounding setup but I've never heard the 210xst.

If it were my money and I could still haul the weight of those cabs around, I would buy the 210xlt, it may be all you need, then if I needed more I would buy the 210xst and then you would have the option of one or both cabs.
