Which Cabinet for a 800watt amp?

Hello All,
I'm planning on buying a Traynor DynaBass 800H (runs at 800watts for 4 ohms...sounds pretty loud :P) but I'm buying it with a Fender 2x12 and 18" cab that only runs at 300watts for 800ohms. Is it just me or does something sound fishy about that combo? Doe this mean I'll be able to add another cab with 500watts to it? Sorry, I'm just a beginning with this stuff so I'm kind of really lost :S What do you guys this of this rig? Long & McQuade - Traynor DynaBass 800H - Bass Head

First the rating of the cab is not what the cab will still sound good at (that maybe more like 150-200 watts). Adding a second cab can be done but the max power you should crank through them is twice your weakest cab, so 300-400 watts. Will you actually need all that power with two cabs??? Usually not.

Watts are pretty meaningless. What limits speaker output is displacement. What limits how many cabs you can use is impedance. It's well explained here, along with a lot of other stuff that every player really should be aware of:

awesome thank you everyone! Yeah I could probably get a better combination but it's a good deal (I'm getting both for about 750 canadian$). Plus, I'm hoping this will bring out the lower end when i switch to drop D now and then. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow!
