which classic look do you like best?

Disclaimer: I dislike sunburst in general and I've never seriously vibed with a J bass sonically.

However, the look of a classic burst/tort J with both covers is eye candy.

i’d say so! i wear my bass so basically my forearm is actually angled ever so slightly upwards! so my hand just of sits in the position you imagine a princess to do as she extends her hand to be... kissed? a weird example but it’s the best way i can describe it. basically my arm is at about an 80 degree angle, and my wrist area is being placed on the bass.

Thanks. For my height, my arms are somewhat long, so my bass is more horizontal.

BTW, When I read the term ‘High-Wearer”, I thought that would have been good grist for a Seinfeld episode

The bound and blocked sunburst J is iconic mid century modern design. The P is nice, but it's more utilitarian in design (which had its own appeal for sure). I like em both. But hold a gun to my head and make me pick one, it's gonna be the J.View attachment 4150632

huh, I associate bound and blocked necks with the 70s, but I don't doubt you that they came out in 66. Mine is a late model MiM 70s reissue, plays and sounds great, and absolutely looks the part.

I very specifically recall them coming out in 1966 because in 1966, I had just purchased a 1965 Jazz from a friend and a new 1966 blackface Fender Bassman amp from a music store. The music store was excited to show me the '66 and it was striking! However, when I got it in-hand it had a deep U-shaped neck that was terrible and made me really happy that I had purchased the 1965. I have since seen some '66 Jazz with the same "60's slim C-shape neck with 7.25" radius that my '65 had. In '67 they went to a C-shape neck that was not "slim".

Like I said, yours looks sweet!!

I'd have a look at the Japanese made Metro's. They are excellent basses and good used instruments are usually reasonably priced. A lot of bass for the money.
