true... a two edged sword. Thankfully the instrument itself isn't nearly as commonly played, so I can still feel like I'm doing my own thing.

I posted that just as an observation....Me? I like archetypes and dont have an issue...even my EB3 is cherry
Wondering about the switch in place of tone pot. is it just wired straight to volume and switch (tone and cap ripped out)? Or is there still a capacitor somewhere (output jack)?
In process of adding a 2nd pickup to my eb0. Currently switch just taped to bass outside of cavity as i play with placement of pickup.
My tone knob rarely does much so after seeing yours thought about just taking it out and putting switch there (could do myself). Quicker than having someone drill a side hole for output jack or try and squeeze switch into crowded cavity.

I rarely find any use for a tone control. I can achieve enough tonal variation through pickup selection and technique.
Mine isn't a Gibson......it's a 1970 Sekova copy......been using it quite a bit for session work in the past year, which is unusual but it records rather well and fills a gap my J- basses and G&L ASAT don't mimic optimally........I do find the switch is handy for convenience and one tone control very useful for the rear pickup ....
The Epiphones in Pehlam Blue pop up with some regularity.
A good option.
Got my eye on rewiring the switch to actual varitone...there some folks selling the wiring harness
Nice on the varitone. Thought about replacing tone pot with varitone or tonestyler but never got around to it.
Tried both my pickups straight to extra jack i had and they sound good through rumble studio40 presets. So so long tone pot!
Will take a picture first in case i mess up so i have reference or can go backwards. Looks like i have to move bridge ground to volume pot (its on tone pot w blue wire connecting tops of vol and tone). Im getting braver with wiring
Worst case i run straight to extra jack until i figure out what i messed up.
