Which effect for this song?

I'll be honest here, I have NEVER used an effect of any sort. But my band is wanting to do "Le Disko" by Shiny Toy Guns. Here is a link:


What kind of effect would I need to get close to this kind of a sound for my bass?

That is definitely a synth, you're gonna want to check out a digital synth pedal. There are really expensive or discontinued pedals that could do that, like the Akai Deep Impact and the Korg G5. I probably sound like a broken record lately, but the Boss SYB-5/Behringer BSY-600 could totally cop that; my cover band plays a song that requires me to get a pretty similar tone, and that's what I use. This is one of the synth tones where a simple fuzz/filter combo is NOT gonna get you there. You need a real pure waveform, sounds like a pulse wave to me.
