WHICH ELECTRONICS IN YOUR MIKE LULL

Same here, I really like Bartolini pickups.
My M5V has Bartolini pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3 onboard preamp.
Well, I don't slap very well and certainly not in public
, but the Bart pre/Duncan p/ups in my M5 sound KILLER when I try to slap. Although, it's certainly non-Marcus like, as set flat it has more midrange than the Marcus Miller 5 I had. FWIW, the Marcus 5 sounded exactly like the live recordings I've heard. I might be able to pull off a decent Marcus tone from my Bart/Duncan combo. But since that's not something I do or not something I need, I've never tried.

Mike Lull Modern 5: Aero J-Bass 5 Type 1 (Std) pickups with Bartolini NTMB (Volume, Volume, Stacked Treble & Bass, Semi-Parametric Mid Boost-Cut) 3-band EQ with MCT-3MC (250/500/750 Hz mid boost mini-switch and separate 2KHz to 15KHz treble boost @ 18v.
Mike Lull Modern 4: Lull-wound Lindy Fralin Bartolini pickups with NTBT (Volume, Blend, VTC with pull for Passive operation, Stacked Bass and Treble) 2-Band EQ @ 18v.
Although different in tone to a certainly degree (I find the Aero/NTMB setup very supportive to the lows and low-mids of a five-string which is extremely useful, while the Fralin/NTBT setup can go from clean to very "growly" pretty easily and can cop a "Geddy" flat plus a "passive" mode that is the first one I've used that I feel would be useful onstage) I love each setup in eah bass, and don't see any plan for a change in my Jazz basses.
Now, if finding aftermarket pups for my Spectors that didn't sound like EMGs and 99.7% of Spector players was as easy, I'd be a happy bassist...

Well, no, that's not exactly what I said, but others may have said differently.
I said that I don't slap on a regular basis, when I do slap I don't use the Marcus tone, and I have never tried to get the Marcus tone out of my Lull. I have gotten a very good slap tone from my M5, but it's not "Marcus-like".
I also said that I did, however, get a VERY GOOD Marcus tone out of the Fender Marcus Miller 5 I used to own.

i had this configuration in a M4V and i thought it sounded amazing. the barts brought out a thick bottom end (not as sharp as marcus tone, but powerful and could cut through the mix. here's a track that i used that bass on - Link Removed (click on pseudo bull n' tree) - REALLY thick strong bass tone. the bass tone on the track is a blended direct mic on cab (SM-400s SWR rig > EA CXL 112 > B.L.U.E. baby bottle mic). i LOVED that bass.
one day i'm going to get this exact bass again, just with 5 strings (sold it cause i wasn't playing 4's at the time).
I spoke with Mike about both of my Lull basses and he was dead on right when it came to giving me the sound I described to him. I have Bassline SC and Bart pre in my M5, and Bassline HumC and Agi OBP-3 in my M5V.
I mean, now that you've talked with Mike Lull himself and he gave you recommendations on the electronics, are you going to buy a Lull?
yes i'm going to buy a M5V natural color, mapple neck and fretboard, black pickuard, basslines pickups, OBP1 electronics.
i wait my money in to week for the payment.
Awesome, congratulations! You will be very happy. The look of the bass is my favorite J look of all - just add black block inlays and binding - like a 75 J - perfect!

Interesting thread...well I like my M5V a lot (SD+NTMB) I also have Marcus V (OBP3 and Schaller 2000 bridge upgraded). I love my Marcus V ...well M5V is better in some ways but there is not Marcus sound which I like...M5V is more punchy more transparent, more deep, better low B, but there is not that "Marcus flavor"...I don't need two identical basses but it would be nice to be little closer to Marcus sound on my M5V. So is the OBP-1 + SD pickups recipe for Marcus "soup"?...thank you W.
