Which Fender jazz is it gonna be

I second the suggestion of the AV'75 Jazz; that's a mighty fine instrument.

If you go for an AV'75, make sure you play it first.
I had one of these, and it was BEAUTIFUL....but a total lemon.

It had a mega dead spot, weak E string, skinny in the low end department, and it was a bad neck diver.

I traded it to a nice guy who collects pretty basses, but doesn't really play. Perfect home for it.

Though it's not one of your current choices, go try out a 70s Classic Jazz Bass. You can get a new one for half of what your budget is. As a fellow Precision-lover, the neck will feel great. Obviously, it's still a smaller nut-width, but the thickness reminds me of my P-Basses.

It also has the nice binding and block inlays and the bridge pickup is about a half inch closer to the bridge, giving you a little more top-end bite. Mine is a real nice 3-tone burst, but there's also an option for black.
