Here's info on the SR line from the 775 - 305.
The first 3 in the lineup are all well built and have good playability. The SR605 is an ash bodied bass so it sounds slightly clearer. Another key difference is the SR535 has a maple neck, where as the 755 and 605 have jatoba/bubinga necks.
The SR505, 535, and 755 all have essentially the same tone and and playability. The walnut topwood of the SR755 does help to give it a warmer tone, albeit a slight one. In short, they don't sound that much different to me and are easy to play.
Full Discloser: I do play an SR535. I didn't notice that much of a difference in tone, so it boiled down to paint/finish for me being the final factor. They sound good and if it worked for you that night then you might want to consider it.
BTW: the 535 looks IMO the nicest on the stage.

Sounds like you need an Ibanez SR885. They're black, have great sound, and with the basewood body very light weight. Kind of like the one I have for sale in my sig
