Which hardware choice suits me best?

Since I really don't know what I'm looking for, sorry to post such an ignorant question.

All i'm looking to do is record bass to computer....at least for now. What is going to be my better choice? I.e. what does the second one have that would be useful to me and worth the extra money (if anything)

i don't like using cards, because I want to keep the recording elements outside of the computer, so that there's no chance of some unforeseen noise, introduced into the band's recording.

so choice number 1

and since i'm going to assume u don't play keyboards, and don't have midi-pickup on your bass, u don't need the midi-in, out.

....oh yea, and the first one is portable

and has far more useful inputs.

IMO, stay away from E-Mu. I had the 1820 card for a while, but within 2 or 3 years it died. It sounded allright when I had it, but I like my Firepod much better. If you can get the Firepod, go for that, but otherwise the M Audio looks decent. Also look maybe at the PreSonus lower end stuff.
