Which International News Source Do You Subscribe To?

I am tired of reading unsourced, incoherently written, filled-with-typos free articles on the internet, and I am therefore looking into subscribing to some sort of international news source, such as Time.

The sections I am most interested in are: politics, tech, entertainment, and food.

I am also looking for something available online and on iOS.

Any recommendations? Which news source are you subscribed to? Why? What do you like about it and what don't you like about it?

Thank you.

Edit: by "international news source" I mean a news source that has an international appeal as opposed to a national one.

I like the British news magazine The Economist a lot. The writing is always good and thoughtful. They are careful to distinguish editorial opinion from factual reporting, and they publish letters from readers critical of both their op eds and their reporting. They provide very comprehensive global news coverage, which I really like; most US news sources treat the rest of the wolrd as an afterthought (here's the US news, the local weather, the sports scores, a story about a rescued pet, and oh yeah there's a civil war in Syria).

It's very strong on politics, economics, and technology; not so much on entertainment and food.

Print subscriptions are expensive, but a lot of the content is available online for free.

BBC. They have a good site, a good app, and, most importantly, good reporting. They're one of few news organizations I trust. And they're free! The Economist would be great as well; a bit more cerebral but great political coverage along with international affairs and, of course, economics. I haven't used their app though. You can't go wrong with the NY Times but it sounds like you're not looking for daily news. NPR is also good; lot's of cool music news.

What I do is follow these organizations on twitter; it works well for me. I also have a BBC app on my Android phone for when I want to browse articles, rather than just have the latest updates. I also subscribe to the Times's afternoon update (also free) which is usually good.

I'm very discriminating when it comes to news (there's too much gou shi out there not to be, IMHO) but these four sources have done me well, so far. Happy reading!

The Guardian and the BBC. Yet to find anything better.

The Daily Mail is a good read occasionally, if only to see what life is actually like on other planets :)

The Daily Fail is a spectacular read, who else is going to warn you about those cancer causing immigrants who are here to steal your puppies?

PS, you'll appreciate this:

BBC seems to a favourite for the English. I'll look into it. I'll also look into The Guardian and the Economists.

Iamlowsound: have you tried the Maclean's iOS app? Maclean's was my first choice, but the app ratings were awful and the subscription somewhat hefty compared to Time.

I read the Independant and the BBC sometimes.

Mostly, though, I stick with the Guardian for news (even though it's op-ed pieces annoy me occasionally) and the Daily Fail in order to anticipate the next conversation with my aged, and somewhat somewhat reactionary, male parent.

I had their old free one, and it was decent. I subscribe to their paper mag, and it comes with a free version for the iPad, but I don't have one so I have never tried it. I also really enjoy reading the paper version, over reading on a screen. The paper version is surprisingly cheap, if you use one of the coupons out of the magazine, you can get it for $20 a year. Just grab the coupon out of one of the display ones in a store.

Definitely the BBC, they have a really easy to use app. I also like The Economist, but I read the actual magazine and hardly every open the app. They always do cool special features, and they cover stuff from just about everywhere. I'll also listen to the NPR news updates on the hour if I'm in the car. Al-Jazeera English has a really good app too, at least for Android. I enjoy reading news based from other places just for a different perspective.

Another vote for the Economist here. As a former journalist, I think they do a fantastic job of reporting, putting together data, and writing. Although their politics are generally different than mine, their opinion pieces are never strident and virtually always well-reasoned.

The New York Times, despite its past mistakes, is still a great source of news and analysis to me. Similarly, I still find the Wall Street Journal to be a quality publication (I do skip the opinion section).

I'm still po'ed at the Times because of their digital subscription policies so I don't read past the 10 or 20 free articles I get in the online version. Almost broke down and ordered a subscription last week and may still in the near future.

Not foreign but The Atlantic is also a good read.

Economist is good.
