Which is the P? Which is the J?

Bass 2 is the Jazz. Bass 1 is the P. Bass 1 has a higher output and sounds beefier and more full.

That's what I heard.

I am mildy amused that despite the answe being posted people are still opining the opposite. Now do an AB with 60s and 70s jazz pup spacing. I bet over 75% get that right.

As good as this exercise was, I just thought it might be quite interesting if someone had both a P and a J strung the same way for a followup test. I wonder if the difference would be more clear or if half of us would get fooled again? We definitely need more of these ...

I could do my Fender Jazz x my Fender P... But would have to re-string one of them, the Jazz is wearing rounds, the P is wearing flats.

Man, that sounds just like my fretless Jazz, so I'm gonna guess it's the J-bass.

Bass 3-- my guess-- it's a Jazz... I think you're doing a great job getting a P sound out of it, but the D string F at the end of the figure seems kind of pinched and missing that low mid whatnot that a P puts out....

That's actually a good thing. What it means is that new people to the thread are taking the test without cheating! Actually, I'm impressed!
