Which J Bass should I consider???

Agreed. I play/teach professionally and have been favoring my Squier Classic Vibe Jazz over my American Standard Fender recently.
This year I’ve owned 3 different American Fender Jazz basses. I’ve spent months with my latest Fender (and trying other high end J basses) finicking with amps, EQ settings and strings. With the Squier? I just plug it in and tweak some EQ here and there and I get the sound I want. Every set of strings I’ve tried on it sound great!
In my opinion, your mileage may vary, etc, etc.

What sound are you after? Vintage or modern? There are so many jazz bass sounds.
If you are after a modern sound consider an 80s Moon jazz. It has a modern Marcus Miller like tone. They fall in your 1000-1500$ budget.

Did you consider the Fender Meteora ?
It's a 'Jazz Bass on steroids' of sorts and it's in your price range.
I'm a JB player, fancy a 2nd bass and i'm horribly tempted by this young cutee.
The neck is said to be incredibly confortable and easy, the pups are very impressive (in JB positions.)
Modern (active, himass bridge) but with a wide array of sounds, 'neo-retro' or 'archeo-futurist' just like its look.
The passive mode sounds great (those mics!) but doesn't provide a tone control, making many TB commenters yell and scream. Well it annoys me a bit, but I could cope (amplifier...) The active mode seems killing.
All in all it's a very 'in your face', youngish JB partner, very showy (in sounds even), I see it Mexican/American to the core (or "South American" as Bo Diddley would say...), so a coherent package. Again very tempting.
All this from internet scolling, but I'll get my hands on one in 2 days time (shop trial), to see if it is up to promises, to my play.

Others have said it already: Parts bass! You control the neck, pickups, finish, weight. Get EVERYTHING you want. Add a pro setup and how could you go wrong?

this right here. I was gonna say, if you have to ask what to consider, then you probably should consider nothing at all
I am in absolute love with the new Aerodyne Special Jazz. I got this one in January and it is simply sublime. I have 6 jazzes right now and this is easily the best of the bunch, while definitely not the most expensive.
Lightweight but solid - floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee, haha! At church, it's my drummer's favorite bass. The fit and finish are without reproach, and the hardware is top tier! I really like the new Babicz Fender-ish style bridge, and the tuners are classic looking open gear jobs, but THICC and beefy as hek! Knobs are nice, high quality units, mounted on smooth pots that have just the right amount of drag. I really love everything about this bass!

That's a great bass until you get to the headstock
I love the G&L headstock, my Fenders and Laklands have clunky, fugly headstocks in comparison. Obviously looks is subjective

I always prefer to keep it traditional. For that price, I’d be looking at an American performer jazz bass. Or a used American original 60s jazz bass. Or a Japanese Fender traditional 60s or 70s jazz.
You are probably right, and I considered putting in some of those Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders or Apollos but in the end I didn’t get around to it…. I had a buyer so… here we are

Honestly, I was never interested in them until I played one in person. Build quality was impeccable, it was plekked so action could go as low as you wanted, the sound was solid but I opted to swap in a sadowsky onboard pre which really made that bass wake up and punch way above its weight class so to speak.
