Which Jazz bass?

My opinion: stay away from the deluxe active.... I'm a jazz bass guy, and this is the worst jazz bass i've ever heard and played (and I played a couple of them).... As for the highway, I'm not a big fan of the satin finish.... A would say go for a MIM classic series, they're the best you can get for the money...

Deluxe active would be my choice, I have one and it is fantastic, very versatile with overall great build quality, good stuff. If you need a bass for many styles, it's the one for you.

If you're more the "one bass one style" person or a traditional design fanatic, get the highway one.

i say the active deluxe gives u more bang for ur buck, that preamp while not the best is capable of achieving great varied tones, also the deluxe has better pickups than ur standard jazz

I guess it's a matter of personnal taste, and I'm not that much into active basses anyway, but 2 of my friends have the deluxe active, didn't like the sound, and when I changed their electronics for a regular passive J setup, they both felt like it was a real HUGE improvement.

Spend a little more and get a roadworn Jazz bass. I just got one and it's one of the best new Fender's I've played in some time.

I played a Deluxe Active Jazz bass recently. HUGE disappointment. The fret work was sloppy. The electronics were noisy. Not a fan.

I use an '04 Active JAzz Deluxe and it works and sounds fine for my needs. Yes . I have heard that swapping out the EQ can make it better. My audience wont notice the difference so why bother ?

I couldn't disagree more. I would stay away from anything made in Mexico. They are all junk. If you can't afford an American Jazz, go for a Japanese.
