Which micro head has the smoothest response and best low end extension?

It's not exactly what you're asking for but maybe a Carl Martin 3 band parametric/ preamp into something like a Peavey IPR poweramp.

Low end for days, headroom for days, completely uncolored, DI, light weight, and less than $600 at about 10 lbs.

I've always liked the F1. Great amp. After trying almost every amp in the Markbass line, I would have to say the only dog was the LM Tube 800. I had such high expectations, and it sounded like ass. I got a great sound out of the BX500, but it took a big amount of tweaking to get over the built in tone.
Unfortunately, mine had issues out of the box.

Shame about the LM Tube 800, i was thinking about trying to pick one up. About the BX500, I've been thinking of maybe getting one of those too. When you say it took a lot of tweaking to get the tone you wanted, was that because of the out of the box issues or just the way it sounded stock?
