I have a chance to get one of theses basses . Both same price. I just picked up a gig doing a Blues brothers revue show. Anyone have input on theses?

I've had both. The Lakland is the better bass in terms of hardware. I upgraded the bridge, tuners, and pickup on my Classic 50's to bring it up to its full potential. The Skyline didn't need anything.

The older Korean Skylines came with a Fralin pickup, so right off the bat they had a leg up on the Fender. That, and the better hardware put the Skyline in a different league IMO.

I liked it better with a black guard.

I am lakland player but my Fender classic has been one the best P O have owned, way better than the lakland P.

Lakland all day. I tried a 1.75" nut once, and it was tough playing in the first position or even playing eighths on low G or F#.

I have an instrument that looks just like the red Lakland 44-64 Custom pictured here! Jeez, what should I recommend? With Lakland, it's all about the neck. And I am all about the neck, too. We get along.

If you want a Lakland Skyline this is the guy....the first two years are the best. Hands down I have played a bunch of Skylines and the 02/03 models are so close to the USA line. This one had the pickup replaced but the pickup is still decent. I would have no fear on buying an early one without playing it.

The Duck Dunn had a Fralin pickup originally. The NeoPunch P pickup they put in those things are super modern and aggressive. I would't suggest that pickup for that genre of music but I am sure with some EQ and such anything can be made to work.

Dude, I know what it is.... My opinion as much as anyone else's I suppose? They aren't retro basses. The Fender is. The OP was fairly specific. I said I'd take the Lakland under any other circumstances.
