Which one? Lakland or fender

The Duck Dunn had a Fralin pickup originally. The NeoPunch P pickup they put in those things are super modern and aggressive. I would't suggest that pickup for that genre of music but I am sure with some EQ and such anything can be made to work.

Dude, I know what it is.... My opinion as much as anyone else's I suppose? They aren't retro basses. The Fender is. The OP was fairly specific. I said I'd take the Lakland under any other circumstances.

I would definitely do Lakland Skyline over a MIM Fender. Actaully I would do the Lakland Skyline over a USA Fender.
Some people (like Jimmy) don't like the oval bridge, but I think that the oval bridge sounds pretty much the same as a rectangular bridge and I never really look at the bridge while I am playing anyway, so the shape of a bridge doesn't bother me in the least.

Thanks for all the opinions But after checking out Donald duck dunn's history and playing with the Blues brothers I went with the fender. I pick it up tomorrow. I think it would be a better fit for me with my big hands. and My music style.

Get rid of the oval bridge and I might consider Lakland. Yes, I know it's shallow, but the oval bridge reminds me of a sink drain.

With all due respect, the surface contact of the Lakland bridge puts it miles ahead of the classic Fender bridge, even though they are the same basic tech, otherwise. I've become sold on surface contact rather than mass. I guess I have to blame Babicz for that.

I'm in favor of the Fender - even with the wider neck. I had a Skyline Decade and I hated the neck. It seemed like it was really flat to me. That sent me away from Lakland.

Couldn't care less about how bridges are made. I've always been just fine with the regular Fender bridge. Personally, I think all they do is add weight. So I choose not to own basses with sink drain bridges on them.

I have smallish hands and have come to love my 1.75" Glaub. Sure, I can fly when I pick up my Jazz or other beasts with thinner necks, but the Lakland necks play soooo nice it kinda makes it all moot.

Two words "quality control".....for me it wouldn't even be a choice. Personally I would get the Lakland. Best wishes whatever you get!
