Which one to choose?

Hello everyone! Im new on this forum,so excuse me,if this topic already exists.Im playing bass for a year now,and i have some kind of : Career:Retrosonic series : bass. ) now i want to buy better one and i am confused: which one to choose?

Fender Squier Affinity Jazz Bass
or
Flea Bass FB-ST Street Bass?
I have seen a topic with fleabass issues and i have heard about squier bass problems..
so,which one would you recommend ?

Paul,Latvia )

I have seen the following basses in the TB classifieds really cheap:
Ibanez ATK
Yamaha BB414
Yamaha BB400
Schecter Diamond J
Guild Pilot
TBC4
Any of the above basses would be better then the two you are considering IMO and would also help a fellow TB'r.

By his included sig - he's in Latvia. Shipping would be a killer if that's so.

I'm thinking that Latvia may not have a lot of gear, and that the presence of an Affinity may be a pretty good deal.

I love my Affinity and won't trade or sell it for the world - well, maybe just short of that anyway.

As far as quality, I know the Affinity line is solid and even if it's not their highest cost or has no snob appeal, it is a solid and dependable performer and of course, it has that Fender mystique to it in the head and body shape and iconic appearance.

If I had limited or no contact with dealers - and I suspect that you may be in this situation - then you might want to consider parts availability, brand recognition and overall that anything that remotely looks Fender shouts a distinctive statement.

There may also NOT be a boutique bass luthier or sales facility in Latvia, but, hey - then again they may make some really choice gear - but for a big price too.

I get this sorta of treatment in new Zealand when I visit there - the prices for what I consider entry-level gear is out of sight, expensive and rare to some extent.

Hopefully you can get to play and feel for yourself and buy the bass which you think is best. I also hope your choices or products-available are larger that I surmise as whatever is the real situation.

My good friend is from Sophia, Bulgaria and although they don't have much of the new US gear, there is some - although rather stilted - has some access to used gear in certain 'political circles' - if you will.

thank you A LOT for such an awesome reply )

and i want to ask again : is there a big difference between Squier Jazz bass Standard and Fender Squier Affinity Jazz Bass ?
cause thats the only thing i can afford right now )

I know the Affinity, and have heard some good - but mostly bad about the Flea Bass - I don't even like the looks of them to be honest.

If I had your druthers, I'd go Affinity and just replace what breaks instead of even thinking of ripping out what's in it when you get it.

I have only had to replace the pickups when one side of mine went weak - not quite dead - but dying after 13+ years of use.

Other than that - all the aforementioned attributes apply to the Affinity: good looks, parts availability and semi-iconic appearances.

The neck on my Affinity is to die for and I don't really care if the body is made from oatmeal - it just works and works very well.

I think I'd also want to use the Affinity as a personal defense weapon of choice over the Flea Bass too.

i get it-fleabass is not such a good idea )
well, but what do you say about standart series and affinity? (squier) what would you choose?

'Standard' as in what manufacturer? Fender? Great stuff!

I am a great big fan of active basses, although I have a few passives too.

I can't really advise you on what to buy, but if you're looking for things, the Fender/Squiers are nice, representative of basses in general (Leo actually invented them) and like I said, there's so much parts interchangeability in all the years they've made them that parts are a little lower in price if you aren't talking VINTAGE or COLLECTOR'S models.

If you put the screws to me, I'd have to say buy everything I did and you'll be very happy - but somehow I don't think that's a good answer.

I tend to stay with either Ibanez or Fender/Squier. Ya really gotta go out and play them to know if they work for you - YOU are the greatest criteria maker for the bass you will live with, play, love and cherish.
